Camellia, State Flower of Alabama
Adopted 1959. In view of the fact that the act does not specify which camellia, the particular variety cannot be officially designated. An effort has been made to determine the intent of those who sought to fix the camellia as the state flower; as the Alabama official colors are red and white, it has been suggested that a red camellia be the official flower. Until a designated botanical species is officially approved, the state flower is therefore the red camellia.
